I made it!

I made it safely to Germany without much incident. My luggage was all lost so I got a lovely overnight kit from Swissport and the promise that at least one of my bags was located in Frankfurt. I had it all by Thursday morning though and two of my new friends insisted on trugging it back to the dorm for me. I'm living in an apartment with four Germans and two other girls from the program. My room is cozy, but needs some color soon (a trip to IKEA perhaps?). We went out for schnitzel last night and had Bratwurst for lunch today (might as well while I'm here). German classes start today with an intensive three week period having German everyday for two hours.

Freiburg is a beautiful city, a nice blend of old Europe and new convenience. I live quite a ways outside of town in an old French army barracks that has been turned into student housing. There's a tram that runs to just a few blocks from the IES center though and we've bought monthly student passes that let us ride whenever and on weekends the pass extends to regional trains and buses.

The next mission will be grocery shopping and getting some plug convertors (since I don't have enough and one of the two I brought doesn't work). I think I'm over jetlag, but still feel tired due to suddenly having to wake up at a real person hour.

I won't have internet in my room for another week or so, but with the help of the program got some set up. Soon I'll be able to post more regularly and not feel bad about taking a long time on the internet thinking of things to write. Until then...

Auf Wiedersehen!
